Background

The NCFTA began as a logical outgrowth of the Pittsburgh High Tech Crimes Task Force (HTCTF), one of the first coalitions of federal, state, and local law high-tech forces established in the nation.

A focal point of this project is the primary partnership established among the FBI, the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and West Virginia University (WVU).

This core group conducted a survey of industry, government, and academia regarding vulnerabilities to current and evolving cyber threats. The survey results identified overlapping mission goals and resources among the respondents. These results form the basis for NCFTA’s mission and directives.

Vital to the NCFTA’s effectiveness is ongoing participation from key SMEs within industry and academia. In developing this project, additional feedback and SME support was obtained from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section (CCIPS) and regional U.S. Attorneys’ Offices, as well as the broader law enforcement community.
