GOZNYM ORGANIZED CYBERCRIME NETWORK TAKEDOWN

The US Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania charged 10 members, in addition to a member who was charged in a related indictment, of a group which used malware known as GozNym to attempt to steal $100 million from businesses in the US, some of which are located in the Western District of Pennsylvania, and their financial institutions. The press release mentions, “Other agencies and organizations partnering in this effort include the…National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA) in Pittsburgh…” United States Attorney Scott W Brady of the Western District of Pennsylvania, along with partner foreign law enforcement agencies, announced the indictments at Europol. The NCFTA and financial institutions which are members of the NCFTA disseminated significant intelligence to law enforcement to assist this effort.
