On October 25-26 in Charlotte, NC, the Cyber Health Working Group (CHWG) held its first in-person conference – “Healthcare CyberGard: Real World Strategies & Tactics.” Approximately 130 CHWG members traveled to the Omni hotel in downtown Charlotte to hear from subject matter experts on topics like when and how to contact the FBI, strategies for a cross-functional cyber preparedness program, advancing cybersecurity objectives with meaningful metrics, and case studies from places like Hancock Health and Pondurance. The 1 ½ day program included a networking reception on the first evening, general sessions for all attendees and concurrent sessions from which attendees could choose the topic of most interest to them. Feedback at the event was overwhelmingly positive; attendees really enjoyed the opportunity to network with peers and discuss, in person, similar challenges and solutions. Initial survey results indicate the sessions were relevant and well received and speakers were knowledgeable and engaging. Almost all attendees indicated a desire to make the conference an annual event.
